| Sister Aurora has been in mission from the cold of Alaska to the tropical heat of the Hawaiian Islands. Much of her mission career time has been spent as a teacher. |
Sister Aurora de la Cruz was born in Raniag, Ramon, Isabela, Philippines. Prior to entering the Maryknoll Sisters in New York in 1974, Sister Aurora taught math and science subjects at La Salette High School in Santiago, Isabela and at Maryknoll High School in Quezon City in the Philippines. As a Maryknoll Sister, she taught in high schools in Hawaii for four years and then in the Marshall Islands for twelve years, where she also served as principal for Assumption High School. It was during this time that the school gained its initial accreditation. From 1993-1997, she gave mission talks in churches and schools in the western United States from Alaska to Texas. From 1997 to 2004, she served the immigrants, refugees, Pacific Islanders, and the homeless population in Hawaii as an Immigration Specialist and Employment Specialist with Catholic Charities Hawaii. From 2005 to the present she has been based at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Maryknoll, New York and gives mission talks in churches and schools. She also coordinates the Maryknoll Sisters Immigration Services Office. Sister Aurora holds a Bachelor if Science in Education degree and a Master of Arts in Theology.
